What is Peace of Mind and is it even attainable?

Peace of mind isn't something you earn or acquire; your true self is already peaceful. However, for most of us, somewhere along the journey of life, our inner peace gets disrupted. This disruption can be attributed to various factors like upbringing, unrealistic expectations, and unempowering comparisons.

There are numerous limiting beliefs, triggers, and past or present circumstances that can rob us of our peace of mind. For the majority of my life, I struggled with feelings of lack and poor self-worth. I was fixated on what I perceived as wrong with me and my life, constantly thinking about what needed improvement. I rarely lived in the present moment. It took years for me to confidently say, "I deserve this," as I once believed it was selfish to assume that something good could be automatic and my right.

What shifted significantly for me was the commitment to personal growth and self-discovery. Through this process, I began to ascend the vibrational frequency ladder. I eventually relocated from Southern California, a place that didn't resonate with me, to a location that nourished my soul every day. I left a job that no longer fulfilled me and distanced myself from toxic relationships. I started developing healthier habits, such as recognizing when I was in a constant state of flight or fight (especially post-COVID). I created a checklist of activities to help me rest and renew. My phone alarm reminded me five times a day to self-assess: What is my mood? What am I thinking? What frequency am I vibrating at? What am I grateful for? Recently, I added a reminder to drink a glass of water each time the alarm goes off to ensure I stay hydrated. I learned the importance of being present, cultivating patience, and embracing the fact that this journey has no shortcuts.

Before making these changes, I often felt like I was energetically treading water every day just to stay afloat. I told myself to focus on "the bigger picture" to justify a job I disliked. I convinced myself that it was temporary and that I should be grateful. I believed I needed to learn acceptance to rationalize my choices.

Creating peace of mind is a personal journey, and you can take your own steps towards achieving it:

  1. Honesty with Yourself: Make a contract with yourself for non-negotiable aspects of your life.

  2. Follow Your Inner Guidance: Develop your intuition; it's a rewarding journey.

  3. Kindness to Others: Extend kindness and help to others, whether through volunteering or simple expressions of gratitude.

  4. Self-Compassion: Be kind and compassionate to yourself. When changing or creating habits, manage anxiety through meditation, exercise, spending time with friends, laughter, watching comedies, or going on adventures.

  5. Meditation and Yoga: Incorporate meditation and yoga into your routine. There are plenty of accessible resources on YouTube.

  6. Positive Affirmations: Use positive affirmations like "I am grateful for...," "I believe," "I attract," and "I allow."

  7. Healthy Lifestyle: Prioritize healthy eating, cooking, hydration, sleep, and avoiding toxins.

  8. Mindful Media Consumption: Stay away from negative people and media. Avoid getting caught up in the rhetoric of news outlets and social media, which can keep you in a perpetual state of flight or fight.

  9. Spiritual Practice: Develop a regular spiritual practice. Even believing in something greater than yourself can be a meaningful starting point.

  10. Surrender and Resilience: Surrender your problems to a higher source of consciousness and see challenges as opportunities for personal growth.

  11. Nature Connection: Spend time in nature; outdoor exercise combined with breathing exercises can be beneficial. Check your local parks and recreation department for activities.

  12. Simplify Your Life: Simplify your life to reduce stress. (See my multitasking myth blog post.)

  13. Confidently Say No: Don't hesitate to say no when necessary. It might be the beginning of something great.

Our pillows and bracelets carry various intentions that can assist you on your journey. I hope to contribute positively to the collective stream of consciousness that we share as humans.
